The new Samsung Galaxy S7: water resistant and not tough
The new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are this years' flagship devices from Korean tech giant Samsung.
Samsung have listened to the criticisms of last years' Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge models and have made this years' offerings water resistant, just in case you were wondering last years' devices weren't.
The new devices carry an IP68 rating with Samsung promising that the new S7 range will be able to withstand being submerged underwater in 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.
SquareTrade, an extended warranty service provider for consumer electronics have decided to take it upon themselves to test the claims made by Samsung that their new devices are water resistant.
As you can see in the torture tests shown in the video, the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices are water resistant, although the speakers seem to disagree.
The devices however are not drop/shock proof with the display galsss cracking very easily and early on during the tests. We'd like to point out that (obviously) none of the devices tested in the video are tough phones so should not be expected to survive drops, shocks and being knocked about.
If you are looking for a truly tough smartphone our range of ruggedised devices from the likes of Cat Phones, RugGear and Defender all carry IP67, IP68 and the necessary MIL-STD 810G crtificates to be considered robust enough to be worthy of the tough phones mantle.
