Apple - iOS flaw is causing iPhones to reboot after suspect text message
A bug has been discovered that is causing iPhones to reboot after receiving a specific series of unicode characters via text message.
The message in question is, "effective. Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗" and is causing iPhones to reboot after it is received to the handset.
Once the device receives the message it will shut down no matter what you are doing on the device at the time. Luckily there is a workaround that can stop the device from rebooting:
- Go into 'Settings'
- Enter the 'Notifications' tab
- Now go to 'Messages'
- Once in Messages switch off the slider called 'show on local screen'
- Also select 'none' under alert style when unlocked
This simple fix will stop your device from reboting for the meantime should one of your friends decide to send you the message.
An Apple spokesperson has announced that Apple engineers are aware of the problema and are working on a fix which will be rolled out with the next update.
