New figures suggest mobile phone subscriptions will surpass global population
Some interesting figures have been reported this week, indicating that mobile phone usage is certainly on the up. This is good news for Tuffphones, with its range of tough, durable and waterproof mobile phones, as more people will be looking for their ideal handset.
The statistics were reported by the International Telecoms Union (ITU), which predicted there will be more mobile phone subscriptions than the global population by the early part of 2014.
At present, there are 7.1 billion people in the world, with current mobile phone subscriptions standing at 6.8 billion globally. 3.5 billion of these are found in the Asia-Pacific area alone – making up more than 50% of total subscriptions. In contrast, Africa has the lowest number of subscriptions at 63 per 100 inhabitants.
The report also indicated that 39% of the world's population are using the internet. Interestingly, Europe has 75% of the world's Internet penetration rate, in front of The Americas, where this figure stands at 61%.
In the report, Brahima Sanou, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, said:
"The mobile revolution is m-powering [sic] people in developing countries by delivering ICT applications in education, health, government, banking, environment and business. Let us all celebrate this mobile miracle that I have no doubt will hasten our pace towards sustainable development."
Come rain or shine, people are using their mobile phones in all manner of situations. If you happen to be one of the many tradesmen or sports enthusiasts who spend the majority of your time outdoors or in harsh environments, Tuffphones has a variety of tough mobile phones to choose from, which are ideal for builders, plumbers, surveyors, engineers, snowboarders, mountain climbers – in fact – any occupation or hobby that's exposed to the ‘great outdoors'.
