Vodafone introduces nuisance call barring technology
Mobile network operator Vodafone has installed a new scam and nuisance call barring technology at a network level that's designed to block unwanted incoming calls from entering the network.
Vodafone have said that the new technology can block hundreds of thousands of unwanted calls ranging from false PPI offers, missed call scams and expensive premium rate numbers offering prizes - all of these can be blocked at the network level before they reach Vodafone's subscribers.
While the new system won't catch all nuisance calls it will help to greatly reduce the volume of calls that customers receive.
Vodafone's UK head of corporate security Mark Hughes commented on the new system saying, "The protection of our customers is paramount and we have been investing heavily in our network and technology to help stamp out this practice. We will continue to evolve the technology as well as work with industry bodies and the regulator to ensure we keep one step ahead of criminals."
