Are Kyocera bringing handsets to the UK?
Japanese smartphone manufacturer Kyocera have announced that they are “in discussions” with UK distributors with the hopes of bringing its first European rugged device to the UK.
The Kyocera Torque S701 features a 4.5” HD display that comes with the added feature of ’Glove & Wet Touchscreen Operation’. The device is running on a 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM that’ll ensure that things keep running smoothly.
The device will also come equipped with an 8MP rear facing camera paired with a 2MP front facing camera, a 3100mAh battery and 4G connectivity.
This all comes in a handset that is incredibly tough, the Torque is rated at the MIL-STD 810G standard which means that it can withstand drops from up to 1.2m and is waterproof for up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, plus its completely dustproof.
Kyocera European communications manager Judah Reynolds has stated that, "We are in talks with UK distributors about getting it into the UK and we are definitely targeting that market."
Reynolds also went on to add that Kyocera realise that they are not a well recognised brand in Europe and are hoping to use the Torque as a testbed for bringing other Kyocera devices into Europe
He finished with, "The ideal goal would be having it through a carrier provider but as it’s our first time coming to the EU market, we’re starting off slow. We realise our brand recognition for mobile phones is not extremely high. We’ll start slowly and try to work that up in the B2B market through distributors."
Here at Tuffphones we've kept a keen eye on the Kyocera devices for some time now and are excited at the prospects of having Kyocera handsets being made available in the UK.
