Is Sky also looking for a piece of the O2 pie?
We recently reported that Hutchison Whampoa (Three Mobile UK) are looking to buy out O2 UK for $13.6 billion.
It also appears that Sky is putting itself forward as a possible merger or collaboration partner for the O2 mobile network. There have been a number of potential buyers who have come forward since O2 have put themselves on the market.
Apparently Sky has been looking to bolster its services catalogue with mobile phone offerings, sitting alongside its landline, broadband and TV services – mirroring competitors like Virgin Media and TalkTalk.
It is doubtful that Sky would buy O2 outright. It is more likely that it is instead looking to collaborate with another company.
We know that Sky had previously looked at working alongside Vodafone, successfully we might add, inviting 200,00 of its UK landline and broadband customers to trial Vodafone’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator services.
Expect further updates to come as the situation unfolds.
