Samsung Galaxy S5 Active - COMING SOON!

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the fastest selling handset in Samsung's history, selling 10 million units in 25 days making it one of the most popular mobile handsets of 2014.

The announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active was an exciting one, while not entirely unexpected as Samsung released an 'Active' variant of their immensely popular Galaxy S4 handset - there was still enough excitement to get the world of mobile journalism buzzing!

The S5 Active comes packed with top-of-the-range hardware, this sibling to the S5 has the same 2.5GHz quad-core Krait 400 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) processor, plus 16GB internal memory which can be expanded via MicroSD Card up to 128GB.

Samsung have always been known to have beautiful displays on their handsets and this 5.1" Super AMOLED screen is no exception. With a resolution of 1,080×1,920pixels at 432 ppi, this is a screen that is easy to use in daylight and produces vibrant colours and looks sharp in the process.

There is a 16MP camera located on the rear of the handset that takes great photos, pretty standard for a handset of this calliber and all of this is powered by a 2800mAh removeable battery - great for when on long days out and the ability to 'hot-swap' batteries is also a welcome addition.

While the Galaxy S5 was waterproof and dustproof the Galaxy S5 Active goes that one step further, with an IP67 rating and MIL-STD 810G this handset is also shock proof and can take a few knocks that will come with the active use that is expected of this handset. Plus the handset is also resistant to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport shock and thermal shock!

TouchWiz skin makes a return on this handset and it's identical to the skin present on the Galaxy S5, this is all laid on top of Google's latest iteration of it's Android OS 4.4 (KitKat).

One of the S5's main features was it's biometric fingerprint scanner, useful for making contactless PayPal payments, unlocking the device and being used as a heartrate monitor with the S-Health suit, all of this has been removed from the S5 Active for obvious reasons (durability, waterproofing) and replaced with three touch buttons for better durability and functionality.

All-in-all we're excited about the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, the handset doesn't have a UK release date just yet but we will be one of the first to know about it's prospective release -  so make sure to follow us on our Twitter feed to get the latest updates when they arise at @TuffPhones.
