CAT S50 announced - next gen 'smart' toughphone
Cat Phones have announced the successor to their best-selling CAT B15 and CAT B15Q rugged handsets - the CAT S50.
The S50 is boasting a faster processor, better battery life, a bigger screen, clearer photos and 4G connectivity, all ensconced in a protective shock absorbent rubber housing.
Durability will surely be no cause for concern with this handset as the S50 is rated at two different protection ratings - the handset is both IP rated and MIL-STD 810G certified.
The IP67 certification means the CAT S50 is waterproof at a depth of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, plus it is dustproof and is totally resisitant to dust and small particles. CAT have also announced that the rubber lined frame is designed to act as a shock absorber should you drop the phone.
The MIL Spec certification of MIL-STD 810G promises that the new arrival is resistant to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistance! Another part of the MIL-STD certification is showing that the handset can be dropped onto each of its surfaces and edges from a height of 48 inches a total of 26 times without showing any damage or handset problems resulting from the drop.
The innards of the CAT S50 are equally as impressive with the smartphone being powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor with 2GB RAM - this will help to ensure that the device can handle whatever daily tasks you throw at it.
Storage is not a problem either with the device packing in 8GB on-board memory which is expandable up to 64GB via MicroSD Card.
All of this can be accessed all day long as the CAT handset is running from a 2630mAh battery promising Stand-by Time of up to 792 hours with up to 16 hours Talk Time.
For those of you that are snap-happy don't worry as there is an 8MP Autofocus rear camera that is capable of taking great shots plus recording video footage at the Full HD resolution of 1920x1080 running at 30fps.
This is all shown on a 4.7” IPS (720x1280) Capacitive multi-touch display that is made from shatter-proof Gorilla Glass 3 and like the CAT B15/Q before it this handset is capable of 'wet-finger tracking' thus enabling you to use the handset with wet hands (perfect for plumbers!).
Another important note is that the S50 is also the first Cat phone to be launched pre-loaded with the Cat Phones App Store of over 1000 hand picked apps, these are the 1000 apps that Cat Phones thought most relevant to their handset users work and play - all of which are now one just click away in the Cat Phones App Store.
The CAT S50 is being toted for release towards the end of September and we'll have a full hands-on review as soon as we receive our handsets.
